Banh Xeo — literally 'sizzling cake' in Vietnamese — is one of the most iconic street foods in Southern Vietnam, and Viva Restaurant brings this authentic experience to Winnipeg's West End. The name comes from the dramatic sizzling sound the batter makes when it hits the hot pan. Our batter is made with rice flour, coconut milk, and turmeric, giving the crepe its signature golden colour and crispy, lacy edge.

The crepe is filled with sliced pork, fresh shrimp, and crunchy bean sprouts, then folded and served immediately while crispy and hot. The traditional Vietnamese way to eat Banh Xeo is to tear off pieces, wrap them in fresh lettuce leaves with mint and basil, then dip the whole package into nuoc mam fish sauce.
